Once you complete Power From Beyond in Starfield, you’re introduced to one of the game’s best-kept secrets: Powers. These work similarly to Shouts from Skyrim, providing various effects in exchange for a cooldown time. In Starfield, this is done through a power meter, with certain Powers using more or less when used. This, plus the nature of different Powers having unique effects, means some are better than others. Here are the best Powers in Starfield, laid out in a convenient tier list.
Which Powers in Starfield Are the Best?
We’ll make a standard tier list for Starfield’s Powers, with all 24 Powers slotted into an S, A, B, or C tier ranking. What each tier means is listed below.
S-Tier Powers
- Reactive Shield
- Supernova
- Gravity Wave
- Gravity Well
- Anti-Gravity Field
S-Tier Powers represent the best of the best. Each one provides a benefit that can be used in numerous scenarios to great effect, with some even being considered overpowered by comparison. The Reactive Shield, for example, allows you to absorb all frontal damage while still being able to shoot. Provided you position yourself well, this can let you trivialize many encounters. Reactive Shield is the Power I’ve been using throughout my entire playthrough, and it’s been a godsend for some encounters.
A-Tier Powers
- Particle Beam
- Phased Time
- Solar Flare
- Sunless Space
- Life Forced
- Creator’s Peace
- Parallel Self
A-Tier Powers offer some great options worth considering but typically have a downside that barely holds them back from being S-Tier. The Particle Beam, Solar Flare, and Sunless Space are all excellent at dealing heavy damage to one target but lack the multi-target benefits of some of the S-Tier Powers.

B-Tier Powers
- Personal Atmosphere
- Sense Star Stuff
- Void Form
- Inner Demon
- Moon Form
- Grav Dash
- Create Vacuum
The B-Tier Powers are good at what they do but are either too situational or too weak to consider picking them over the other options on this list. Personal Atmosphere is my go-to for crossing large distances, but it may as well be worthless when I’m in a firefight. On the other hand, Create Vacuum has plenty of applications but does too little damage to justify using it over something else.
C-Tier Powers
- Precognition
- Eternal Harvest
- Earthbound
- Elemental Pull
- Alien Reanimation
Finally, we have C-Tier Powers. These Powers are at the bottom of the barrel, either bad at what they’re designed to do or downright useless. Precognition can be slightly helpful during conversations, but once you’ve learned how NPCs react in this game, you can make educated guesses yourself. Meanwhile, Earthbound is the worst Power in the game, hands down. Changing everything to Earth’s gravity? That’s the best we can do?
