Team Deathmatch has been a staple of Call of Duty throughout the entire modern shooter era. One of the most popular game modes in the franchise, its objective is simple: kill the opposition and stay alive. Skill alone isn’t enough. Preparation and strategy will go a long way to securing victory. In Call of Duty: Ghosts, the team that reaches the 75 kill mark first will emerge victorious. Let’s take a look at some specific strategies you can implement to finish at the top of the scoreboard.
Situational Awareness
Previous entries of the franchise featured much smaller maps. With Ghosts, the maps have increased in size, which tilts the playing field in favor of the strategic player. Those who rely on their reflexes alone will need to make some adjustments. Paying close attention to your mini maps is key, as you will frequently find your opposition spawning in the unpopulated areas behind you. Of course, a high quality headset or sound system is extremely beneficial, allowing you to hear the footsteps of friendly and enemy soldiers.
Pro Tip: If you hear movement, take a look at your mini map. If no teammates are nearby, be ready to engage the enemy. Careful, they might be able to hear you as well.
Execute the Game Plan
Preparation and situational awareness are great, but if you don’t put it all together, you’ll end up at the bottom of the scoreboard. You’ll find that you die quickly in Ghosts, meaning the gun battles come down to who sees who first. Building on earlier suggestions, equip a Silencer on your weapon to keep yourself from appearing on the mini map. Although you might find the weapon’s damage tails off a bit, if you open fire first, you’re still likely to come out on top. The Tactical advantage of remaining unseen justifies the slight decrease in power.
Still, you have to be wary of the amount of noise you make, not just for the mini map, but the opposing players using top of the line headsets. Try equipping the Dead Silence perk from the Stealth category and Amplify from Awareness. Dead Silence will allow you to move silently, while Amplify will enable you to clearly hear enemy footsteps.
Now that we’ve turned you into a Ghost (see what we did there?), we must mention that at the end of the day, shooting people is key. Players in Call of Duty tend to sprint a lot. Use this to your advantage. Approach corners with your weapon raised. If you’re paying attention to your mini map and have a good handle on the flow of battle, you’ll find this to be very effective. Also, think about equipping Extended Mags on all of your primary weapons. The additional ammunition will help you deal with multiple targets without needing to reload.
