While the Master Sword may be one of the most iconic pieces of imagery from The Legend of Zelda franchise, fans may be wondering if weapon durability can affect this great sword. As you battle against countless foes in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll have the opportunity to finally claim The Master Sword at a pivotal story point, or earlier if you just so happened to be in the right place at the right time. But, does this weapon also suffer from breakage, or can you finally keep one weapon in your inventory at all times? Let’s find out and see if the Master Sword can break.
Does The Master Sword Break In Tears of the Kingdom?
The answer is both yes and no. The Master Sword cannot break, but it will be unusable for some time after combat. Let me explain a bit more.
As you take on any sort of enemy in the world, you can use the Master Sword to challenge them to combat. However, after repeated use, the Master Sword will eventually run low on energy. This is the rough equivalent of when a weapon is just about ready to break. You can get about 5 to 10 more swings out of it before it reaches the final hit.

Once it reaches its limits, however, the Master Sword will run out of energy. This essentially makes it unusable for a period, meaning that you’ll have to swap back to your standard weapons for the time being. So technically, yes, the Master Sword can break, but it will regenerate energy over some time, letting you use it once again unlike your standard weapons.
How Long Does The Master Sword Take To Recharge In Tears of the Kingdom?
If you plan on using the Master Sword once again, you’ll only need to wait 10 minutes of real-world time for the sword to regain its magical energy once again. It’s a rather short wait, and it feels like it takes much less time since you’ll be so absorbed into the world that you’re exploring to even notice.
You’ll also receive a message stating that the Master Sword is recharged once it is ready to be used again. You can find it in your inventory or in your Sword Selection screen (D-Pad right). You can use it over and over again, as it can never fully break… except for during the opening sequence.
