The Trapinch family might be one of my favorites of Generation III. Not only is Trapinch adorable with its giant jaws, I love that it evolves into a dragonfly with literal goggles strapped to its face. And the polygon wings for Flygon? Brilliant.

But like all Pokemon, Trapinch and its evolved forms are better Shiny. And yes, Trapinch can be found in its Shiny form in Pokemon GO!

Shiny Trapinch’s orange clay color takes on a green-like hue, making it seem much more related to the extraterrestrial Pokemon, Elgyem. But once it evolves into Flygon, its green turns turn into a bright blue.

Which makes it absolutely worth finding in Pokemon GO. But doing so can be quite difficult. Trapinch is already a difficult Pokemon to find unless there’s an event like a Community Spotlight happening. That’s because they typically only spawn in desert biomes. That’s not to say you won’t see a Trapinch otherwise. They can spawn anywhere, but they’re very rare.

But if you’re playing and see a Doduo in the overworld, keep searching, because it means there’s a chance that Trapinch will spawn there too.

Beyond tracking down Trapinch’s preferred environment, you should know there’s only a 1 in 500 chance of encountering a Shiny Pokemon. You can accelerate your hunt by utilizing nearby Pokestops and your Daily Incense but expect a grind.
