CS2 was, without a doubt, one of the most hyped FPS game releases of this year, yet the release has caused mixed feelings among the CS community with all the benefits and shortcomings of the game. Historically, Counter-Strike has been available on many different platforms. However, the newest iteration appears to be missing from platforms it was previously available on. Is CS2 Available to Play on Mac?
CS2 will not be available to play on Mac. In the night between October 11 and October 12, 2023, Valve made a big statement on the matter, explaining that the only supported platforms for CS2 will be PC (exclusively for 64-bit Windows) and Linux. This shocked the Mac part of the CS community, which isn’t a small portion by any means. According to Valve, the Mac population is less than 1% of the total player base, which indicates that there were no more than between 5 and 15 thousand CS2 players who play the game from their Macs at all times (approximately) if we base this calculation upon the Steam Charts. It’s sort of harsh.
Why Is CS2 Not Available on Mac?
Valve didn’t make any direct statements besides the “player count” justification, but that might be the key. Building CS2 for Mac could be extremely complicated given the circumstances, and they, perhaps, felt that they shouldn’t allocate that many resources to something that “less than 1% of players” will play.
We are witnesses to a “shaky” release of CS2 that is not yet 100% complete. However, it’s getting there and has many positives, even with all the current negatives that are on their way out. I am hopeful that CS2 will be a significant improvement from CSGO eventually.
Remember, we still lack stuff like Danger Zone, War Games, and Workshop (at the time of writing this article). We will have to wait and see what unfolds in the following months. And, Valve was pressured by the public to bring back CSGO.
