At this point, CS:GO Source 2 is all but confirmed by Valve themselves. Despite Valve saying nothing officially on the subject, let alone alluding to it, dataminers and leakers have noted updates to CS:GO that seem related to its Source 2 port up to the minute they’re added to the development build. Hell, you can find a mention of “csgo2.exe” within Nvidia Control Panel if you’re that curious. With the excitement around CS:GO getting a slight makeover, some are naturally wondering if they can get in there ASAP. Here’s whether you can play CS:GO Source 2 early.
Can You Access the CS:GO Source 2 Port Early?
As far as the immediate future is concerned, you can not play an official build of CS:GO Source 2. There has been no official news from Valve regarding the game itself, and there’s no leaked build out there in the wild that is playable. With that being said, some of these leaks have indicated that a beta of the Source 2 port will be available before becoming part of the full game. Take this with a grain of salt though as, again, Valve has not yet said anything concrete on the subject.
With this being said, we suggest tempering your expectations when it comes to just how different CS:GO on Source 2 will be. Yes, there will be visual upgrades to the game and it should look better than the current game does. That doesn’t mean the port is any sort of remastering project though, as the team isn’t planning to completely redo visuals as they did for several maps years ago. Think of it more like a texture resolution and lighting upgrade than a full-on redesign.
