Dead by Daylight continues to be one of the most successful and enduring asymmetric multiplayer games out there, launching across pretty much every available platform and adding more and more content. And with a player base of that size, and the way gaming has evolved, it’s no wonder that cross-play was on the table. Now it’s live, bringing the whole Dead by Daylight community together. But how does it work?
How Does Cross-Play Work in Dead by Daylight?
Cross-play comes with inherent challenges and limits, especially when added to a game that didn’t support it before. There are some restrictions, and unfortunately the mobile version isn’t supported. That said, when the Stadia version launches, it will be a part of the cross-play crew. But what about all the smaller details and possible issues?

Right off the bat it’s important to note that there are no plans currently to add mouse and keyboard support to console versions. And if that’s a problem to you, it’s also important to know that cross-play is optional. If you turn it off, you’ll only be in the matchmaking pool with players on your platform. This is also something that will be enabled if your platform happens to be behind when a new update occurs, ensuring issues there won’t be a factor. On a similar note, if you haven’t purchased content another player has, you’ll be able to see that content, but not use it yourself.
As far as communication goes, only PC players will be able to use the in-game chat function. The developers recommend using the official Discord community for the game to get around that, but otherwise any player-side solution will have to do. You’ll also see which platform players are using via the game’s UI, and you’ll be able to add friends across platforms by using their “DBD ID.”
One final important point with Dead by Daylight Cross-play is that while you can add friends and play across platforms, the planned cross-progression feature is still a work in progress. The developers plan to provide details later on, but nothing is out there just yet. Reporting tools are all implemented across platforms however, so if someone is being a jerk there’s no issue letting someone know.
