Masterwork Weapons are the new rave in Destiny 2, and they offer a temporary end-game goal for many players. But, if you aren’t up for grinding Legendary Engrams to get your hands on these new items, or if you just want to turn a specific weapon you already have into a Masterwork Weapon, then there are options out there for you. In this article we’ll show you how to get your hands on Masterwork Cores, which will allow you to turn your own Legendary Weapons into Masterwork Weapons.
How to Get Masterwork Cores
As we explained in our guide on how to get Masterwork Weapons, these items are simply more powerful variations of Legendary Weapons that have re-rollable and random stats like Reload speed and other things. But, if you aren’t up for grinding out and chancing it with the Cryptarch, you can get your hands on Masterwork Cores, which will allow you to upgrade your current Legendary Weapons.
Right now, upgrading a Legendary Weapon to a Masterwork Weapon is going to take a total of 10 Masterwork Cores—which is quite a few considering how much work you’ll need to put in. Granted, as you continue to play, you’ll probably get your hands on even more Masterwork Cores, which should make this transformation much easier to pull off.
Right now, the only way to get your hands on Masterwork Cores is to dismantle current Masterwork Weapons. This means you’ll want to dismantle any Masterwork Weapons that you get your hands on, as this will reward you with Masterwork Cores—similar to how dismantling Legendary Weapons will grant you Legendary Shards.
Once you have a Masterwork Weapon, dismantling it will reward you with anywhere from 1-3 Masterwork Cores. Obviously, right now that isn’t really a whole lot considering how low the chances are that you’ll receive a Masterwork Weapon from a Legendary Engram. But, it’s better than having to simply deal with RNG until you get the weapon that you want. Instead, you can now turn your favorite Legendary Weapons directly into Masterwork Weapons, which seems like a win/win to us.
For now, all that’s left to do is get out there and get your hands on some Legendary Engrams, which you can then decrypt for a chance to unlock a Masterwork Weapon. It’s not the most efficient way for things to be, and we’re sure that Bungie will continue to roll out improvements to the system over the coming weeks, and it won’t be near as troublesome at some point in the future.
