Is World Tier 4 worth the effort it takes to get there? Is an Ancestral item really that much better than a Sacred item? Here’s the difference between Ancestral and Sacred Items in Diablo 4.
Difference Between Sacred and Ancestral Equipment in Diablo 4 Explained
As you’ve fought your way through Sanctuary, you’ll encounter items of all types of rarity. But there’s one type of item that can only be found in World Tier 4 – Ancestral. But is this new tier of item worth the pain of completing the World Tier 4 Capstone dungeon? Of course, it is. At least, if you want the strongest build possible.
There are Rare, Legendary, Sacred, and Ancestral items in Diablo 4. Each tier of rarity has a max range on what stats it can drop with. A Legendary item will drop with better stats than a Rare, a Sacred item will drop with better stats than a Legendary, and so on.
Ancestral items have the potential to drop the best possible stats, though this isn’t always guaranteed. It’s possible for an Ancestral item to drop with an Aspect or stats that’s substandard to a well-rolled Sacred item, and it’s always heartbreaking when this happens.

Another thing to note about Ancestral items is that Ancestral aspects you get from your gear can only be imprinted onto Ancestral gear. But if you like, you can put an Ancestral Aspect on your Sacred gear, or a Sacred Aspect on your Ancestral Gear.
Did you know Unique items can also be Ancestral or Sacred? And that they drop at a much higher rate in World Tier 4? If that sounds like enough motivation to come to World Tier 4, check out our guide on how to beat the Capstone dungeon here: How to Unlock and Beat Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4.
