Cities: Skylines 2, the long-awaited sequel to the still-popular Cities: Skylines, is finally out, and hundreds of thousands of players are rushing in to check out the new experience. In the guide, we’ll find out if Cities: Skylines 2 has multiplayer or not.
Is There Multiplayer in Cities: Skylines 2?
At this moment, there is no multiplayer in Cities: Skylines 2. While there are some speculations on why this is the case, an official response regarding the matter exists online.
On their official Twitter account, Colossal Order has responded to some of the most popular questions regarding Cities: Skylines 2, and a user called Spect0rs asked them the question: “Any scope to add multiplayer in Cities Skylines 2?” to which Colossal Order responded in their March Q&A:
“Cities Skylines II is our most ambitious project to date, expanding on every mechanic in the franchise. Adding multiplayer support takes an incredible amount of time and resources that would take away from building the core player experience we are striving to create.”

Will There be Multiplayer in Cities: Skylines 2 in the future?
It is difficult to say whether the above statement “closes” the multiplayer question permanently or not. Some would call that answer a non-answer, which can be easily interpreted by many as “We want to focus on improving the single-player experience right now, and we cannot commit to implementing multiplayer right now, but in the future, who knows…” It’s an open-ended statement because they made no plans or promises for the multiplayer feature and haven’t entirely ruled it out, even though it’s hinted that it’s most probably not happening.
In essence, If it happens in the future, it happens. But do not get a lot of hopes up. Coding a multiplayer feature into a single-player game is not easy; we shouldn’t blame the developers if they can’t or won’t make it.
