In Fallout 76, Vault Dwellers will not only be tasked with survival, but they’ll also need to scavenge scrap to upgrade materials, build houses, and a whole lot more. One of the hardest items to find in the game that can be used in a lot of recipes is aluminum, so in this guide, we are going to show you some of the best ways to find and farm aluminum in Fallout 76.
Where to Find Aluminum in Fallout 76
Unfortunately, aluminum is one of the most difficult items to find in Fallout 76 as there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of it lying around. However, there are a few different ways for players to farm aluminum if they find themselves in a bind. In the list below are a few easy ways to farm aluminum in Fallout 76.
- Dismantle metallic junk
- Search the Savage Divide and other stony/mountainous areas
- Harvest the soil in the Flatwoods
- Search the racetrack west of Vault 76
As you can see in the list above, there are really only a few places that you’ll be able to easily farm aluminum from in Fallout 76. If you plan to go out scavenging, be sure to tag aluminum in the menu so that it is highlighted in the world when you walk past it. To do this, simply go into the crafting menu, find a recipe that requires aluminum, highlight the item, and press tag. Now, while you’re exploring around, any type of aluminum will be highlighted and easy to see, ensuring you don’t walk right past it and making it much easier to find.

It’s also possible that you may have some aluminum in your possession already, and you just don’t know it. There are a handful of seemingly junky items that you may have picked up while exploring around that can be dismantled for aluminum. There are a lot of items that will work, but things like cake pans, ski poles, and TV dinner trays can be broken down for three pieces of aluminum, while more common items like coffee tins, hubcaps, oil cans, and alarm clocks can be broken down for fewer pieces. If you’re wondering if an item can be dismantled for aluminum, you can always open up the item menu and see what each item is made of!
Now you may be thinking that this seems like a lot of work for some aluminum, and it is, but if you’ve been playing for a while then you’ll know that this material is used to make all sorts of different items. From things like pistols and grenades to clothing and plans, you’ll find aluminum is used in around 200 different crafting recipes.
