FFXIV has added a new type of dungeon for players to explore. Variant Dungeons are a brand new design choice for replayable instances that offer players choice and branching paths. They offer players a story-based more casual experience. With patch 6.25, the first of these dungeons were added. Here is how to unlock the Variant Dungeon Sil’dihn Subterrane in FFXIV.
FFXIV: How to Unlock Variant Dungeon Sil’dihn Subterrane
In order to unlock Final Fantasy XIV’s first Variant Dungeons, you will need a few things. First, you will need to complete the Endwalker Main Quest Scenario. You will not be able to start the questline for Sil’dihn Subterrane until Endwalker has been completed.
If you’ve already completed Endwalker, you must head to Old Sharlayan. From here, head towards the docks and speak with Osmon (X:12.0 Y:13.3).

After talking to Osmon, you can speak to Shallow Moor, standing right next to Osmon. Talk to Shallow, and you’ll begin the questline “A Key to The Past.”
This is the starting quest for the Sil’dihn Subterrane Variant Dungeon. You’ll have to head to the main city of Ul’dah to continue the quest. Speak to your next target and follow the storyline from here. This will finally lead you to the entrance of Sil’dihn Subterrane.
Variant Dungeons do not have a specific team composition, so you can enter solo or with friends. You don’t need to worry about having a tank, two DPS, and two healers. The party size for Variant Dungeons is only four players, and they are more casual story-focused adventures with branching paths that affect the narrative.
Play through the route multiple times to see everything these new dungeons offer.
