Fire Emblem Three Houses is all about the rivalries between the Golden Deer, the Blue Lions, and the Black Eagles. The comparisons to Hogwarts don’t go amiss a lot of the time; each House is in definite competition when your students are under your tutelage at Garreg Mach, and the academy makes it a point to pit the kids against each other in what are apparently exercises meant to build strength and tactical ability. One such skirmish takes place early in the game, where there’s a free-for-all between the three Houses. Let our Fire Emblem Three Houses Battle of the Eagle and Lion guide help you navigate this combat encounter no matter what House you’ve chosen to support.
Fire Emblem Three Houses Battle of the Eagle and Lion Guide — Units and Map
This all-for-one match between the Three Houses takes place in Chapter 7 of the monastery section of the game pre-timeskip. Regardless of which House you’ve picked, you’re going to be facing down an assortment of units from the other Houses that have a largely identical composition. Here’s a bit of a list for you. At the Battle of the Eagle and the Lion, you’ll face:
Blue Lion / Black Eagles:
- 1 Sword User
- 6 Lance Users
- 5 Axe Users
- 1 Bow User
- 1 Reason User
- 1 Faith User
- Dimitri or Edelgard
Golden Deer:
- 5 Lance Users
- 1 Axe User
- 5 Bow Users
- 1 Reason User
- 1 Faith User
- Claude
You’ll be allowed to take 10 units into battle, so make sure you choose wisely if you’ve somehow managed to amass more than that from recruiting from other Houses this early on in the game. There’s going to be a number of optional objectives to complete that will make this fight easier, including seizing control of Ballista and more, along with other treasures in chests.
Fire Emblem Three Houses Battle of the Eagle and Lion Guide — Tips and Strategy
As a rule of thumb with this map, the more enemies you put down, the better your rewards after. Don’t worry, you won’t actually be offing any students, but you will get more bang for your buck if your House ends up being the one to take down the most people. The first thing you’ll notice is that the other two Houses that aren’t yours will go for each other, no holds barred. You can take advantage of this if you’re a particularly smart commander by letting your enemies tire each other out before riding in on a cavalry unit for the killing blow.
The map is incredibly large — it has to be to hold a three-army skirmish — which means that you can expect that enemies will sometimes take erratic routes to get to places. You’ll have to be hyperaware, especially considering any terrain advantages that your foes might pick up, so constantly being on your feet and maneuvering around the enemy is what we would advise.
One thing that we would definitely recommend is seizing control of the Ballista at the map’s core. If another House gets their hands on it, they can be a real nuisance to your backline and to any flying units that you might have. Not to mention it’s just an easy holding place for enemy troops to clam up and to stop you from advancing across the map to kill the various House teachers in their hideouts. Make seizing and using the weapon a priority.
If you keep these handy tips in mind from our Fire Emblem Three Houses Battle of the Eagle and Lion guide in mind, you’ll be sure to guide your chosen House to victory against the rest and claim true battlefield supremacy. If you’re a bit further along in the game and you need a hand with the Holy Tomb battle or the final fight against Nemesis (if your route demands it), then our guides will have you sorted out.
