All Jotnar Shrines Locations in God of War
Jotnar Shrines are easy enough to spot if you’re looking in the right area. Jotnar Shrines are huge wooden triptych cabinets composed of three panels depicting a scene out of the Giant’s mythology.
Upon finding a Jotnar Shrine, Atreus will decipher the scene and tell Kratos the story it represents. There are 11 Jotnar Shrines total and finding them all will complete the More Than Myth Labor and will reward you with The Truth trophy in God of War.
Below you will find a list that describes where to find every Jotnar Shrine in God of War, along with the region and story mission they are found in when applicable.
Jotnar Shrine #1: Sköll and Hati
Location: Wildwoods
The Sköll and Hati Shrine is the first Jotnar Shrine you can find in God of War. This shrine is found in the Wildwoods region during The Marked Trees opening mission. Look for this shrine just after you complete the puzzle where you freeze the door cog for the first time. Hang a left outside, climb the chain, head up the stairs and smash through the wood panels to find the Sköll and Hati Jotnar Shrine at the end of the hall.
Jotnar Shrine #2: Hrungnir
Location: The River Pass
Players can find the Hrungnir Jotnar Shrine during the Path to the Mountain mission in God of War. After falling from the broken bridge into the ravine below, make your way through the cave ahead. When you hop across the bridge with the gap in the middle, go left just before the Nornir chest to find a lengthy passage. At the end of the path is the Jontar Shrine for Hrungnir.
Jotnar Shrine #3: Jörmungandr
Location: Shores of Nine
Once you reach the Lake of Nine, make your way across the main bridge as instructed during the Path to the Mountain mission and pass through the giant double doors across from Brok’s main shop. When you enter the poison-filled area, smash through the wooden barricade on the left to find a Jotnar Shrine featuring the World Serpent tucked away in a side room.
Jotnar Shrine #4: Gróa
Location: Alfheim
In the Lake of Light area of Alfheim, continue through the main story to restore Alfheim’s light. Before crossing back over the bridge from the sealed door leading to the light, go down the side path to the right to find the Gróa Jotnar Shrine next to Sindri’s shop tent.
Jotnar Shrine #5: Skadi
Location: Veithurgard
Head through the large double doors along the east side of the Lake of Nine to discover the Veithurgard region. On your way to free Otr, you will discover a temple that has a door locked by a Runic puzzle. Use your axe to spin the mechanisms on the outer poles to the correct Runes to open the temple door. The Skadi Jotnar Shrine is dead ahead as you enter, so you can’t miss it.
Jotnar Shrine #6: Ymir
Location: The Mountain Pass
Continue through the story mission Inside the Mountain and head up The Mountain. Just before you enter the icy chamber with the slanted bridge you have to lower, you should spot a doorway near the entrance covered in red vines and sap. Grab one of the sap balls from the next room and lob it at the vines. Have Atreus shoot the ball with his shock arrows to clear the entryway and reveal the Ymir Jotnar Shrine.
Jotnar Shrine #7: Thrym
Location: Lookout Tower (Shores of Nine)
Continue through the story to have Mimir speak with Jörmungandr. You’ll need to climb your way up toward the Lookout Tower in the Shores of Nine. Climb up the cliff and ride the zipline down to another area full of Revenants. Just before the Thor statue, you’ll find the Thrym Jotnar Shrine in God of War. The Kneel Before Thor treasure location is found nearby as well.
Jotnar Shrine #8: Bergelmir
Location: Shores of Nine
While exploring Tyr’s Temple during the mission A Path to Jotunheim, keep an eye out for the Bergelmir Shrine on your way to destroy the chains that bind the temple. As you descend on the elevator, turn around when you reach the bottom to find the Jotnar Shrine for Bergelmir, the King of the Giants.
Jotnar Shrine #9: Thamur
Location: Thamur’s Corpse
Make your way through the story to reach the Behind the Lock mission in God of War. This mission takes you to Thamur’s Corpse on the north side of the Lake of Nine. When you arrive, look for a Hidden Chamber near the dock along the coast. Open the Hidden Chamber using your Magic Chisel and enter the room to find the Thamur Jotnar Shrine just past the door towards the left.
Jotnar Shrine #10: Starkadr
Location: Konunsgard
The Hail to the King mission will have you visit the Konunsgard stronghold on the northwest side of the Lake of Nine in God of War. When you first enter the Dwarven King’s temple, head into the first chamber on the right to discover the Starkadr Jotnar Shrine.
Jotnar Shrine #11: Surtr
Location: Muspelheim
Collect the four Muspelheim Ciphers to unlock access to Muspelheim in God of War. Travel to Muspelheim using the Travel Room and head over to Brok’s shop area. Just beyond Brok, you’ll find the Jotnar Shrine for Surtr, the Fire Giant.
