How to Start Sebastian Sallow’s Questline in Hogwarts Legacy

You’ll eventually meet Sebastian Sallow as you progress through the main story. He is hanging out in the Slytherin common rooms at first. His first quest is In the Shadow of the Undercroft. You’ll need to first complete your Flying Class, which will unlock Sebastian’s questline for you. Beating it will give you the spell Confringo.

Opening All Slytherin Locks in Hogwarts Legacy – In the Shadow of the Study Quest Guide

After you light the three braziers, unlock the first entrance, and enter the underground passage, you’ll spot locked gates and snake statues. You’ll also see symbols on both, which you can interact with on the latter to progress through each puzzle. Each serpent statue has a torch next to it, which you’ll have to light up with Confringo or Incendio to activate.

As you find each door, pay attention to the two symbols and line them up on the serpent statues. Since some are scratched out and hard to see, you’ll have to use contextual clues a few times to match them. When you’re ready, interact with the snake lock and turn the dials until you get the same combination as the door.

For example, with the door below, you’d have to turn the dials on the nearby serpent lock until you find the circle on the top and the infinity symbol at the bottom. Doing this will open the door, allowing you to progress further into the dungeon.

There are three doors in all that you’ll find in this dungeon:

  • The first door you’ll encounter has a scratched-out bull head symbol on the top and a Z-like one at the bottom. You’ll find its matching lock in a nearby room, which you can access by crouching under an iron gate.
  • As shown in the picture above, the second requires you to line up the circle and infinity symbols with the nearby snake lock.
  • The third door also has a scratched-out triangular symbol at the bottom, with the top resembling a fish. You’ll find the serpent statue by heading through the second symbol door and jumping down the ledge.

By unlocking all three gates, you can progress further into the quest and get closer to entering the Scriptorium!

Hogwarts Legacy is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch through the official website.
