Need for Speed is back on the streets! After a long hiatus, the legendary racing series is back, with Criterion Games again at the helm and with the brand-new action racing title, Need for Speed Unbound. Although the style of this sequel is a little different and shifts from the usual racing game aesthetics, Unbound is a real Need for Speed game through and through that actually shares a lot with the previous few sequels, especially Heat. The big open world is there, day and night cycle, tuning and police chases… and all those fancy designer shoes for your character.
Anyhow, let’s see below how big Unbound’s map is compared to previous Need for Speed titles.

How Big is the Map in Need for Speed Unbound?
Lets first see the maps from the three last Need for Speed games.
Need for Speed (2015) map
Need for Speed Payback (2017) map
Need for Speed Heat (2019) map
…and finally
Need for Speed Unbound (2022) map
Although we don’t have exact 1:1 comparisons just by looking at these maps, you can clearly see how much larger and more complex the Unbound map is, with many more intertwined streets and passageways. Criterion’s design is definitely different from the Ghost Studio, the developers of the previous three titles, and there is no doubt that with Unbound they have created one of the greatest maps in the history of Need for Speed games, although it may not seem so at first glance.
