Baldur’s Gate 3 is a technical marvel on a variety of levels, but how long did it take to get to where it is today? While it may have been in early access for a fair bit of time, how long was it in development before that point?
How Long Was Baldur’s Gate 3 Being Made?
Baldur’s Gate 3 had been in development for a whopping six years, with three years of that development time spent in Early Access. Giving players access to your game with that much time in between its EA period and full release period gave Larian Studios plenty of time to refine and make Baldur’s Gate 3 into what it is today. With the sheer number of choices available within this particular world, it’s understandable why the team may have needed as much time as they did to make sure that everything was up to par.
Even after a lengthy development cycle, Larian Studios continues to add more features to the game. There are plenty of new updates coming down the pipeline, and plenty to look forward to as Baldur’s Gate continues pushing toward the top of the charts. Even with this many years in development, there are always things to tweak and change to make it better than ever before. Even after release, for example, Act 3 was nearly unplayable even after release with plenty of issues plaguing that particular portion of the game. However, with diligence, Larian has made Act 3 run and play much better since its release.
