Pokemon Scarlet and Violet continue the trend of making EV and IV training Pokemon easier for casual players. While the systems are still somewhat obtuse, and the in-game resources aren’t always the best to guide players, it’s still a step in the right direction. If you’re looking to use vitamins to train your Pokemon, you might wonder how many EV vitamins give Pokemon. We have the answer for you below.
How Many Vitamins to Max EVs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
Let’s start with the basics. Several vitamins in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will boost a specific stat’s EV (Effort Values). The following vitamins and the corresponding stat are listed below:
- HP UP: HP.
- Protein: Attack.
- Iron: Defense.
- Carbos: Speed.
- Calcium: Special Attack.
- Zinc: Special Defense.
So once you’ve determined the stat on which you want to use vitamins, you’ll need to purchase them. Each vitamin will increase the specific stat by 10 EVs. Every Pokemon has a total of 510 EVs to be distributed among the six stats. Each separate stat can be maxed at 252, meaning you’ll need 25 vitamins of a specific stat to max it out.
You’ll need a total of 51 vitamins to max out a Pokemon’s total effort values. The most common split is 252/252/4. This lets you min/max two specific stats that the Pokemon will make the crux of its power. For instance, Azumarill uses physical attack and HP to use the Belly Drum Play rough combo. So you would max out its Attack and HP EVs with HP Up and Protein vitamins.
If you train a Pokemon with the wrong EVs, accidently give it the wrong vitamins, or just want to start over from scratch, you can reset a Pokemon’s EVs using stat-reducing berries or a Fresh-Start Mochi.
To fully EV train a Pokemon with vitamins will cost 510,000 Poke Dollars per Pokemon. It’s a very pricey way to complete this task.
Where to Get Vitamins in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
You can purchase Vitamins at any Chansey Supply store after obtaining three gym badges. Each Vitamin will cost 10,000 Poke Dollars, but you can also try to get Vitamins for more or less at the Porto Marinada Auction.
If you have the Indigo Disk DLC, you can purchase Vitamins from the Blueberry Academy School Store for 50 BP each. BP can be a pain to acquire, but it’s a much more affordable option if you’re willing to grind BBQs or Amarys’s flight trial minigame. You also have a 1% chance of various Vitamins randomly printing when completing print jobs with the Item Printer.
If you don’t want to spend money on Vitamins, you can find a finite number of them on the ground scattered across Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Academy. They’re few and far between though, so it’s not the most efficient way to gather these EV-boosting items. Alternatively, you also have a chance of winning Vitamins as a random reward from the Academy Ace Tournament.
If you’re having trouble acquiring Vitamins, you can try using Feathers instead which increase a Pokemon’s specific EV by 1 instead of a Vitamin’s 10. Feathers can be found in abundance as sparkly items on the ground, especially on the waters of Casseroya Lake. Feathers may not work as well as Vitamins, but you can likely find, say, 10 Health Feathers a lot faster and cheaper than one HP UP.
