How to Beat Black Bear Guai in Black Myth Wukong

If bears are so dangerous, why are they friend-shaped?

Black Bear Guai is the final boss of Chapter One in Black Myth: Wukong, and he’s a giant bear sitting between players and the first major relic. This is technically the second form of an earlier boss, Black Wind King, but differs significantly in terms of scale, and damage output. Here is how you can beat the Black Bear Guai in Black Myth: Wukong.

Black Myth Wukong Boss Guide: Black Bear Guai

As intimidating as Black Bear Guai first appears, this is one of the easier bosses especially if you have the Fireproof Mantle, which significantly reduces incoming fire damage.

In terms of transformations, I’d steer away from Guangmou because Black Bear Guai tends to constantly create distance between the player and himself.

Black Bear Guai Phase One

Phase One almost always starts with Black Bear Guai transforming into a wisp.

This leads to a jumping attack where Black Bear Guai will transform back, and plunge towards you. It’s easy to react to as long as you have locked on to him.

During phase one will have access to a few hard-hitting slashes, and lunges, but most of these have a fairly large wind-up animation that can be dodged, especially if you dodge backward.

If he’s charging up from a distance, that’s your cue to move out of his sight and move outside his general direction. While it’s pretty easy to perfect-dodge most of his attacks, you can simply maintain distance and keep poking and charging heavy attacks as well.

Black Bear Guai will also randomly run away from you, give you a chance to heal up, or chase him down to get some hits in, especially a charged heavy attack.

He’s usually open to hit after he’s done with a combo.

Black Bear Guai Phase Two

After you bring his HP down to 50%, he’ll smash the ground, and fire will shoot out of the ground. This is your cue to activate the Fireproof Mantle because Black Bear Guai will now do fire damage as well.

He still has similar slashes that now deal fire damage as well. The approach should largely be the same. Ideally, you’d want to perfect-dodge each attack, but simply dodging away in his general direction works as well.

Find openings during his combos to deal light and heavy damage, and if you’re down on health, it’s a good idea to activate the Red Tides transformation as well.

During this phase, Black Bear Guai will also turn into a firey wisp instead of a regular one. He will stay in this form for a while, and zip towards you to deal damage. There is a very clear visual and audio indication before it comes towards you so keep an eye on it. The wisp will expand in size, and reform before shooting towards you.

Continue chasing down Black Bear Guai and keep using the heavy-charged attack to maximize damage. Liberally make use of both Immobilize and Cloud Step to your advantage, and prioritize charged heavy attacks.

Overall, it’s not that hard of a fight, and it’s great to see that the camera doesn’t work against you either despite his size. After beating him, players will gain access to the first Relic called Craving Eyes. This fight will also finish chapter one, sending players to explore the open map of chapter two and all its secrets.
