Amnesia: The Bunker encourages you to be creative when solving its puzzles by thinking “outside of the box.” One of the most common is the wooden doors. In most cases, you need to break them open, but for some, there are alternate methods of opening them that are far less violent. Here’s everything you need to know about opening the wooden doors in Amnesia: The Bunker.
How to Break Open and Unlock Wooden Doors in Amnesia: The Bunker
Almost any wooden door can be forced open in Amnesia: The Bunker by using any of these methods:
- Pick up a heavy concrete brick (like in the tutorial) and toss it at the wooden door twice.
- Chuck a grenade under the door and run away.
- Drag an explosive barrel to the door and shoot it from a distance.
- Provoke a monster into breaking it open for you. That’s… difficult to do. You need to drive it crazy by attempting to hurt it. And even then, it’s not guaranteed to break open the door you need.
- Shoot the middle of the door with your shotgun.
Note that the monster will come for you if it hears noises. So make sure you can find somewhere to hide quickly if doing any of the above options!

For some, you’ll need to do the following:
- Physically remove the obstacle behind the door blocking you from fully opening it. You will immediately see that this is the case if the door can be opened slightly but not enough for you to go through.
- Unlock the door from the other side by pressing the yellow button so that the indicator goes from red to green (same as with the Administration Room doors).
How to Break Open and Unlock Padlocks in Amnesia: The Bunker
For padlocks, it’s the same deal as the wooden doors, with the addition of being able to shoot at the padlock with a revolver or a shotgun. And not just that! At one point, you will obtain the Chain Cutters, which will help you to unlock padlocks and chains without wasting precious resources.
Remember, you do not need to open every door to clear the game. You need to allocate your resources carefully since they are very limited, regardless of the difficulty level.
