Like a Dragon: Ishin is finally here! The remake of the Japan-only 2014 Yakuza spin-off is now available in the west, all with a new rebranded name. Yakuza, or Like a Dragon games, have always traditionally had several difficulty levels, from exceptionally easy modes for players who just want to follow the great stories of these games, to very challenging new game+ difficulties. However, Ishin breaks a record when it comes to difficulty selection.

How to Change Difficulty in Like a Dragon Ishin! – Difficulty Levels Guide
When you start the game for the first time, you immediately have a choice of all five difficulty levels:
- Easy – Recommended for players who are new to action games
- Normal – The standard difficulty level
- Hard – Recommended for players skilled at action games
- Legend – For players seeking a challenge
- Ishin! – “Survive the Bakumatsu period at its bloodiest” Recommended for players with previous Clear Data.
The range of difficulty levels is very wide in Like a Dragon Ishin, so you can fine-tune the level of challenge to suit your playstyle – and really, stay away from the Ishin! setting until you’ve played the game at least once, even though this most challenging mode is available right from the start.
To change the difficulty level later in the game:
- Go into the pause menu by pressing Start / Options button
- Select Settings
- Go into the Gameplay options
- The second option from the top is a Difficulty selection
After changing the difficulty you will return to the game without having to reset your save, the only time you can’t change it is during the fights – so be sure to adjust the difficulty setting while roaming around, before entering combat.
