While some characters in Overwatch 2 like Pharah have clearly defined weaknesses, some characters can be a little harder to deal with. Here’s how to counter Hammond (also known as Wrecking Ball) in Overwatch 2.
The Best Characters to Counter Hammond (Wrecking Ball) in Overwatch 2
Wrecking Ball’s whole shtick is that he goes in, causes a lot of chaos, and gets out before he can take too much damage. This is assisted by an extremely small critical hit spot, making precision characters particularly ineffective against him. However, characters that can put a wrench in his dive can make for great choices.
Tank Counters
- Doomfist
- Orisa
- Sigma
Following through with CC being a massive pain point for Hammond/Wrecking Ball, characters like Doomfist and Orisa can cause a lot of issues for his planned strategy. Sigma can do this as well but has the added benefit of quickly repositioning his shield amidst the chaos.
Damage Counters
- Ashe
- Cassidy
- Junkrat
- Mei
- Reaper
- Sombra
Continuing with the theme of CC, characters like Cassidy, Junkrat, Mei, and Sombra can quickly ruin a dive by either denying his engage or downright removing his ability to use abilities. Reaper has the added benefit of seriously ripping through a Wrecking Ball and forcing him to play defensively for some time. I threw Ashe in here purely because her Coach Gun can help keep Wrecking Ball at bay, but should probably be picked only when she’s also countering another enemy.
Support Characters

- Brigitte
- Kiriko
- Moira
Baptiste and Brigitte are solid picks against Wrecking Ball thanks to their ability to prevent an engage from scoring a pick and CCing Ball respectively. Meanwhile, Kiriko and Moira are more picks to allow you to quickly get out of the engagement zone and support your team through something like Healing Orb or Protection Suzu.
