Enshrouded, the newest unfortunately timed survival game, is a lot more “Breath of the Wild” than “Pokemon.” This means a hand-crafted world with plenty of shortcuts waiting to be taken advantage of, one of which requires an early game grappling hook.
First, Make Sure You Have a Workbench
More advanced crafting recipes, like the Grappling Hook, require a Workbench to make. The Workbench is very simple to craft, requiring just 3 String and 8 Wood Logs. String can be made from Plant Fibers which are obtained by looting plants and bushes. Wood logs are found by hacking at trees with your axe.
Once you have a Workbench placed, you’re one step closer to swinging through the air (and over all the deadly Shroud in the valley below).
Grappling Hook Crafting Recipe
At your workbench, scroll down to the Grappling Hook recipe and you’ll see it requires 4 Metal Scraps, 7 String, and 10 Shroud Spores. Here’s how to get each of these materials quickly:
- Metal Scraps – Looted from Scavenger enemies found to the North of the Cinder Vault.
- String – As above, use Plant Fiber to quickly whip some of these up.
- Shroud Spores – Looted from Shroud enemies found in the Enshrouded valley north of the Cinder Vault and in other areas where Shroud is present.
The Grappling Hook is especially handy in the early game for crossing the Braelyn Bridge to the north of the Cinder Vault (and location of your first camp in the plains). Not only does it speed up your journey to the north, but it also avoids some nasty Shroud and enemies in the valley below.
The Grappling Hook also just needs to be equipped; you don’t have to actively use it in order to cross gaps. A button prompt will appear when you’re in an area you can grapple across. Convenient!
