How to Find and Use Silk in Ark Survival Ascended: Scorched Earth
As you traverse the dunes, dodging Deathworms and heat waves, you’ll find that fashion really does matter. And the best gear you can don for the brutal heat of Ark Ascended Scorched Earth is Desert Cloth Armor, which can only be made with silk.
Fortunately, you have three options for getting silk in Ark Survival Ascended: Scorched Earth.
You can:
- Kill and harvest silk from Lymantria,
- Harvest it from white flowers, or
- Harvest it from light purple flowers.
The hardest method for getting silk is undoubtedly by finding and killing the moth dinosaur, Lymantria. Lymantria can be found in the central area of the Scorched Earth map, and will usually be on the ground until they’re attacked. Once they’re attacked, they’ll take to the air, making it essential that you have a long-range weapon like a bow and arrow or gun. Once you’ve killed a Lymantria, you’ll need to attack its corpse with a Metal Hatchet to harvest silk from its body. Simply killing it isn’t enough.
Alternatively, you can use a sickle to harvest silk from the flowers found around Scorched Earth. White flowers are by far the easiest to find in Scorched Earth, as they can be found along the river that runs through the center of the map. They’re plentiful to boot, making white flowers the best and easiest way to harvest silk.
Alternatively, you can get silk from the purple flowers that look somewhat like irises. These flowers are rare on the riverbank but become plentiful as you head north and begin climbing the mountainous terrain. If you’re in the area, these are the second-best options for harvesting silk.

How to Make a Sickle in Ark Survival Ascended: Scorched Earth
Because flowers are the best option for finding silk, you’ll want to make a sickle. The sickle requires you to be level 30 So, here’s the step-by-step process to get the sickle in Ark Survival: Ascended Scorched Earth.
- Unlock the refining forge at level 20.
- Unlock the Smithy at level 20.
- Unlock the Metal Hatchet at level 20.
- Unlock the Metal Pick at level 20.
- Get 18 Metal Ingots using the refining forge.
- Get 16 Hide.
- Use the Smithy to craft the sickle.
The refining forge and smithy will require quite a bit of material, so it’s a good idea to hoard as much metal, rock, wood, flint, and hide as you can. And while you’re out there gathering, why not grab some crystals too? You can find quite a bit of them where wyverns nest.
