There is deep and terrible magic in Sanctuary. The Tree of Whispers is a heinous thing, imbued with the swamp’s power. Its knowledge is unrivaled, and it speaks through the heads that live eternally in its branches. But it’s still one of the most useful fonts of experience and equipment in Diablo 4. Here’s how to find the Tree of Whispers in Diablo 4.
How to Find the Tree of Whispers in Diablo 4
If you’ve read any guides or forum posts about Diablo, you’ve likely stumbled across a name: The Tree of Whispers. This tree is one of the best sources for experience and equipment in the game. By completing tasks for it, you can get equipment caches which will drop a variety of items. Here’s how to find it.
The Tree of Whispers is first discovered through the campaign, around the midway point, in the Northeast of Hawezar. But you’ll need to complete the campaign to enter its employ. Once you do, you’ll be able to see Whispers of the Dead on the world map, which are activities you can complete to gain rewards from the tree. Completing these activities will net you Grim Favors. You’ll need 10 Grim Favors in order to get an equipment cache from the Tree of Whispers.
Those Whispers include:
- Dungeons: 5 Grim Favors
- Defeat the Seething Abomination: 5 Grim Favors
- Harvest 100: 3 Grim Favors
- Cull Enemies: 1 Grim Favor
- Complete Events: 1 Grim Favor
- Clear Cellar: 1 Grim Favor
- Defeat Specific Enemy: 1 Grim Favor

Once you’ve collected 10 Grim Favors, you’ll be prompted to return to the Whispering Tree. Do so, and you’ll be given a choice between three randomized caches. The caches offered have two tiers, normal and Greater, with the Greater reward having higher tier items.
The cache options include:
- Collection of One-Handed Weapons
- Collection of Two-Handed Weapons
- Collection of Amulets
- Collection of Rings
- Collection of Helms
- Collection of Chest Armor
- Collection of Gauntlets
- Collection of Pants
- Collection of Boots
- Collection of Chaos
Collections of Chaos can contain any item type but seem to almost always drop at least one higher-tier item. All caches will drop the listed equipment type and an assortment of resources, from Gems to Blacksmith resources.
