Amazon’s MMO New World has not yet become a mega-hit as devs expected, but it still gathers a number of loyal players who explore, well, the New World as members of one of three factions on the island of Aeternum. But, what do you do when you want to join in on all that 17th-century-like action but the game just doesn’t want to start? Keep on reading to find out how to fix the New World not launching error.
How to Fix New World Not Launching Error?
We’ll run through some of the most common reasons why New World fails to start and look for possible solutions.
Check If Your PC Meets the System Requirements
If this is your first time trying to run New World, be sure that your PC meets the minimum system requirement. A 64-bit processor and operating system are required.
Minimum System Requirements for New World
- OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 / AMD CPU with 4 physical cores @ 3Ghz
- Memory: 8GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 2GB / AMD Radeon R9 280 or above
- DirectX: 12
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 50 GB available space
Disable Steam Overlay
The Steam overlay can sometimes prevent games from starting. To disable it, follow the steps below:
- Launch Steam
- Click Library
- Right-click New World in your Library and select Properties
- On the General tab, uncheck the “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game” box
Verify Integrity of New World Game Files
If you already played New World on your machine but now it won’t start, the files could be corrupted. You should run the “Verify integrity of game files” option in Steam.
- Launch Steam
- Click the Steam Library tab
- Right-click on New World and select Properties
- Click the Local Files tab and click on “Verify the integrity of game files”
Steam will try to replace all of the missing or corrupted files, but if that doesn’t help…
Update Your Graphics Card Drivers and/or Windows
If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, use the GeForce Experience app to download and install the newest driver, or if you have an AMD graphics card, use the RADEON Upgrade tool. Restart your PC after the new drivers have been installed and try again. If that doesn’t help, you can check if your Windows operating system is updated as well.
If nothing seems to work, it’s probably time for a fresh reinstall of the game, and if that doesn’t work either then you might have some more serious hardware issues.
