Warhammer 40K: Darktide is a game released in the year 2022, and as such, has numerous technical problems that must be contested. The pre-order beta helped this issue severely, but there are still issues that the team has left to work out. There’s the dreaded backend error, as well as numerous issues that seem to have a thing for the early 2000s. One such issue is one many people find all too often with games these days. Here’s how to fix stuttering issues in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.
What Causes Stuttering in Darktide?
Stuttering in Darktide could come down to any number of reasons, though we’ve listed off some of the most common fixes that we recommend trying out:
- Lower Your Worker Threads Count
- The Worker Threads setting tends to improve performance for most people by offloading much of the processing power to the CPU, but some have reported that this results in inconsistent framerates. To change the value, go into the game launcher, click Settings, then scroll down to Worker Threads and lower the count. Make sure to experiment here with different values, as results may vary from PC to PC. While you’re at it, make sure to lower as many settings as you can live with to help improve performance.
- Update Your Graphics Card Drivers
- Nvidia and AMD tend to release new graphics card drivers around the time of new releases, and a few have been released to help optimize Warhammer 40K: Darktide. Having those updated means you can rule out one more factor that could be leading to instability. To update your drivers, head to your GPU manufacturer’s drivers page and select your GPU, to which you should be able to download the most up-to-date drivers.
- Make Sure You Meet (or Exceed) System Requirements
- This may seem quite obvious, though you’d be surprised how many people buy a game without checking the system requirements. Even meeting the minimum requirements can result in a lot of compromises, which could include stuttering. It all depends on how the developer goes about testing for minimum and recommended specs.
- Set Darktide as High Priority in Your Task Manager
- It’s a hidden option for most people, but changing Darktide to high priority in your Task Manager can help alleviate a few problems. To do so, open up your Task Manager by right-clicking on your Windows icon and selecting Task Manager. From there, click on the tab labeled Processes and find Darktide (you need the game open to see it). Then, hover over Set Priority and select High.
