The Science Journal is one of four relics needed to open the new Dark Aether Rift introduced in Season 3: Reloaded for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Here is how to get and upgrade the Science Journal in MW3 Zombies.
How to Get Science Journal in MW3 Zombies
MW3 Zombies players can get the Science Journal relic by killing 50 zombies inside the Aether Storm after completing the Act 4 Union mission. The Aether Storm is the purple circle with the radiation symbol on the map where the Stormcaller boss resides.
The Stormcaller does not have to be defeated, but players must kill zombies while inside the circle. That means a gas mask is required to survive, and a level two or three Pack-a-Punched weapon is necessary for the tougher zombies.
Be sure to go for this relic when the storm is in the neutral Tier 1 zone, as it will spawn Tier 2 zombies. The zombies will be one level of difficulty higher if the storm is in the orange or red zones. A Reward Rift containing the purple Science Journal will appear when 50 storm zombies have been killed.
How to Upgrade Science Journal in MW3 Zombies
The purple Science Journal can be upgraded to gold rarity by doing the new Tier 3 Easter egg. In the red zone at coordinates E4 near the rift itself, there will be a purple triangle on the ground.
Stand on the triangle and look around for three purple runes hanging on buildings and structures nearby. Shoot the three purple runes for the triangle to activate and cause mismatched lines to appear on buildings just north of you.
Stand on the archway overlooking the plaza and line up the mismatched lines until it looks like a complete triangle. The newly formed shape will activate, while a ring will appear around you with a Perform the Summoning prompt.
Perform the Summoning and kill zombies within the ring until an overpowered Hellhound appears. Defeat the boss Hellhound to receive a Reward Rift containing the gold Science Journal.
