Hardwood in Stardew Valley is considered one of the more advanced items you get once you reach significant progress in the game. Here is where you can find Hardwood and how best to make it grow in Stardew Valley.
Where to Get Hardwood in Stardew Valley
Hardwood is usually a resource that can only be farmed once players are able to upgrade their axes to either Copper or Silver. Not only can this help players to be able to break stronger obstacles such as Trunks and Stumps on the farm, but this can also break open pathways that were previously inaccessible.
Trunks and Stumps
Large pieces of fallen trees and remnants can be found around the player’s initial farm. The goal is to eventually strengthen your tools so that they can be broken down for better resources and free up space for more room for the player to use. The resource that falls from Trunks and Stumps is exactly the way to get Hardwood. Though this isn’t the most substantial way of farming it for the future, it can lead to where players can get the necessary resources to do so.
Trunks and Stumps cannot only be found on the farm, but also around the world of Stardew Valley, such as in Cindersnap Forest. Head to the forest by taking the south route of the farm and navigate your way south of the Wizard’s tower. There is a path that will lead West that opens up into a large forest where players can farm for trees, forage resources, and more depending on the season. By venturing west through the forest, keep north of the path to find your way to a fallen Trunk.
With an axe that has been upgraded to Silver, players can now break down this Trunk to venture into a new area, The Secret Woods. It is here where players can begin to farm for Hardwood since there are several Stumps around this area that can be broken down. But that isn’t all, with so many stumps, players will now be able to easily gain an abundance of new resources known as the Mahogany Seed.
Mahogany Trees
By breaking down Trunks and Stumps, players can occasionally get a Mahogany Seed. By planting these Seeds like you would a tree, players can grow Mahogany Trees, don’t forget to nurture them with Tree Fertilizer, or else it’ll take forever to grow. Mahogany Trees aren’t just great for looks on the farm, but once they are chopped down, they’ll supply the farmer with Hardwood.
After obtaining a large amount of Mahogany Seeds, players can sustain their own Tree Farm of Hardwood for all their needs, such as leveling up houses and building stronger fences.
How to Make Tree Fertilizer
Mahogany Trees can be quite tricky since they only have a 50% chance to advance to their next state, even when fertilized. But by making sure you have a grove of Trees, you’ll not only be able to grow plenty of Trees, but get Seeds from the ground that may occasionally drop from the fully-grown Trees.
Tree Fertilizers can be great to increase the rate at which a tree will grow as well as ensure the success of your Mahogany Trees. It will take leveling up to Foraging Level 7 in order to unlock the Recipe for Tree fertilizer, but after that, it can be fertilized with 5 Fiber and 5 Stone.
After planting the Mahogany Seed, plant the Tree Fertilizer and it’ll turn the original Seed to red. After 7, plus or minus 2 days, players will have a fully grown Mahogany Tree that, once chopped, will drop approximately 8-13 Hardwood. Mahogany Trees can also be tapped for Sap which will supply 1 Sap every day.
