One of the first Pokemon you’ll encounter in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC is a familiar face, at least if you played Pokemon Legends: Arceus. And that face, of course, is Hisuian Growlithe. But this Pokemon can’t be found in the wild. Here’s how to get Hisuian Growlithe in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Hisuian Growlithe in the Teal Mask DLC
If you purchased the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, the Teal Mask, you’re one of the lucky few who can add Hisuian Growlithe to your team. But getting Hisuan Gowlithe in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet requires you to jump through a few hoops. Here’s how to get Hisuian Growlithe in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet:
- As a gift from Perrin in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Teal Mask DLC.
- Transfer it from Legends Arceus or Pokemon GO via Pokemon HOME.
- Trade for it.
How to get Hisuian Growlithe in The Teal Mask DLC
To get Hisuian Growlithe in The Teal Mask, first you must speak to Perrin in Mossui Town, just west of the Community Center. You’ll see that she has her own Hisuian Growlithe.
If you don’t have 150 Pokemon Registered in your Kitakami Pokedex, she’ll tell you to come back when you do. But if you have registered that many Pokemon, she’ll ask you to help her find another Hisuain Pokemon—Ursaluna. However, this Ursaluna is a unique specimen, which has earned it the title of the Bloodmoon Beast.
Acquiring this unique Ursaluna will require you to take several photos of Pokemon in a specific area, followed by a battle encounter with the Bloodmoon Beast. As you fight Bloodmoon Ursaluna, Perrin will take photos. And after you win, she’ll return to Mossui Town to have them developed.
Once Perrin returns to Mossui Town, speak to her again. She’ll give you your own Hisuian Growlithe.
Of course, it’s not the horned Growlithe she has as her companion. It’s that Growlithe’s little brother! Your new Hisuian Growlithe will be level 15 and have “Amazing“ stats! Not bad, and certainly better than most of the Kantonian Growlithes you’ll see wandering around Kitakami.
How to Transfer Hisuian Growlithe from Pokemon HOME
If you have the means to, you can also transfer Hisuian Growlithe from the free Switch app Pokemon HOME. To do this, you’ll first need to have caught a Hisuian Growlithe in either Pokemon Legends: Arceus or Pokemon GO.
If you’re playing Pokemon Legends: Arceus, you can find Hisuian Growlithe in the Cobalt Coastlands. They like to hang out and ruff around atop the Windbreak Stand and the Veilstone Cape. You can also find them running around in the Cobalt Coastlands’s Massive Mass Outbreaks. From there, it’s just a matter of opening up the Pokemon HOME app with your Legends Arceus cartridge still slotted into the Switch.
Transferring From Pokemon GO
If you’re playing Pokemon GO, the recent Out To Play event gives you the opportunity to encounter Hisuian Pokemon, including opportunities for a shiny Hisuian Growlithe. You’ll get Hisuian Growlithe from eggs while engaging with the Out To Play event, or from Gifts from friends outside of the event. You can also find Hisuian Growlithe through encounters from Field Research, or from the Tails of Adventure Timed Research as a part of Out To Play.
Transferring Pokemon from GO to HOME is a little more involved than from a cartridge on the Switch. In the Pokemon GO app, you’ll want to access the GO Transporter by going to Settings > Connected Devices and Services > Pokemon HOME. You’ll first be asked to link your Nintendo account, but once you have done so, you should be able to press a Send Pokemon button.
Sending Pokemon through Pokemon GO requires GO Transporter Energy, which is limited but recharges over time. This essentially just limits how many Pokemon you can send at once. If you have the necessary amount of Transporter Energy, you can choose which Pokemon you want to transfer from there, confirm, then hit transfer. Now you’ll have to open up Pokemon HOME on your Switch, at which point you’ll get a message asking you if you’d like to receive the Pokemon you transferred from GO. Tap Yes, and then your Hisuian Growlithe should be sitting in HOME.
From Pokemon HOME, make sure your Pokemon Scarlet or Violet cartridge is slotted into the Switch, and then you’ll be able to move your Hisuian Growlithe from HOME to one of the boxes in your game. After that, you can boot up whichever game you transferred your Hisuian Growlithe into, move him out of the box and into your party, then take him out for the walk he deserves.
If you want another unique Pokemon, why not grab the caramelized dragon Pokemon, Dipplin, next?
