Stardew Valley may strike you as merely a cozy, calming farming adventure, and you wouldn’t be wrong. Stardew Valley is all of those things. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in Pelican Town, particularly when it comes to combat in the Mines and Skull Cavern. If you’re struggling with the combat in Stardew Valley, getting your hands on a great weapon like the Galaxy Sword will make a big difference.

Stardew Valley Galaxy Sword Guide

The Galaxy Sword does 60-80 damage, +4 speed, and doesn’t cost a dime if you complete the quest. If you would like to upgrade your weapon to the powerful Galaxy Sword, here’s how you can get it.

Getting your hands on the legendary Galaxy Sword involves collecting all four Dwarf Scrolls, deciphering the mysterious Dwarvish headstone in Pelican Town, and following its directions to the center of the Calico Desert pillars with a Prismatic Shard in hand.

In theory, this sounds easy enough. But completing this quest can be harder than expected. Your main roadblock will be finding a Prismatic Shard. Finding the Dwarf Scrolls can be bothersome, as well, but you don’t actually need to find all four Dwarf Scrolls to decipher the headstone and get the directions to the sword. You can find the Galaxy Sword without deciphering the headstone at all.

If you would like to save yourself the spoilers and find the Dwarf Scrolls to translate the stone yourself, you will find them by tilling the soil and killing monsters in the Mines. The Red and Green Scrolls can be found on levels 1-79, and the Blue and Yellow Scrolls will be found on levels 80 and deeper.

If you would like to skip the Dwarf Scrolls chapter altogether, keep reading to find out what else is involved in the Galaxy Sword quest.

How to Find Prismatic Shards in Stardew Valley

The mysterious dwarvish headstone in the Pelican Town cemetery contains the secret to the Galaxy Sword. This is what it says:

“Stand between the pillars three with gift as precious as the sky: A rainbow forged from land, not sea. Then galaxies will heed your cry.”

The rainbow forged by land, not sea that the stone is referring to is a Prismatic Shard. Prismatic Shards are very rare in Stardew Valley, but there are a couple of ways to get them. You can find Prismatic Shards by breaking apart Mystic Stones in the Mines or inside fishing treasure chests, Omni Geodes, and monsters on extremely rare occasions.

You can also get Prismatic Shards from Rainbow Trout Fish Ponds. Fish Ponds can be built on your farm for 200x Stone, 5x Green Algae, and 5x Seaweed. You can then catch Rainbow Trout at the Mountain Lake or Rivers on sunny Summer days between 6 AM – 7 PM. Place your Rainbow Trout in your Fish Pond, and wait for your Prismatic Shards to appear in the catchment.

Prismatic Shards won’t start appearing until after you’ve got at least nine fish in your pond, and it’s still a rare item, but this method allows you to farm Prismatic Shards passively.

Where Do I Take My Prismatic Shard to Get the Galaxy Sword?

Now that you have your hands on an elusive Prismatic Shard, you are ready to obtain the Galaxy Sword. This does, however, require access to the Calico Desert, so if you haven’t unlocked that area yet, put your Prismatic Shard somewhere safe and keep working on repairing the Bus Stop. You can do this by completing all Vault Bundles in the Community Center.

If you can access the Desert, buy yourself a ticket any time after Pam has clocked in for her shift and jump on the bus. Once you’ve arrived, head to the three pillars on the northeast side of the Desert and stand in the center with your Prismatic Shard in your hands. After a short cutscene, you will be left standing with the Galaxy Sword in your grasp!

The Galaxy Sword is one of the best swords in Stardew Valley, but there are plenty more to get your hands on. One of the most interesting of which is the Meowmere Sword from Terraria. Check out our Meowmere guide if you would like to find out how to add that sword to your collection, too!
