How to Heal Pokemon in Pokemon GO
The main way to heal Pokemon in Pokemon GO is to use potions. While a simple, regular potion requires 20 HP to your Pokemon, stronger ones, like Max Potions, will recover more. You’ll regularly gain potions from places like gyms, PokeStop, the in-game store, and completing Field Research tasks, among other sources.
You can find four potions in Pokemon GO, each restoring varying amounts of health. Below are the four you can find:
- Potion: Restores 20 HP.
- Super Potion: Restores 50 HP.
- Hyper Potion: Restores 200 HP.
- Max Potion: Completely restores a Pokemon’s HP.

Occasionally, your Pokemon will quickly faint in your battles. You may get one shot by a Pokemon who directly counters you or run out of potions and lose your health before your enemy does. In situations like this, you’ll need Revives, an item that restores a fainted Pokemon’s HP and allows them to fight in battle again. When searching for potions using the methods above, you have a chance of finding revives too.
There are two different Revive items you can find that have slightly different effects. While a regular one restores half of a Pokemon’s HP upon revival, a Max Revive item completely refills your Pokemon’s HP.
How to Use Potions and Revives in Pokemon GO
Once you have your potions and revives, you can take the following steps to use them:
- Head to your Pokemon GO main screen and tap on the Pokeball button in the bottom center of the screen.
- Select Items in the bottom right corner to enter your backpack.
- Scroll down until you find your potions or revives, and select them to use the item on your chosen Pokemon!
