While you progress through Starfield, you’re going to be shooting a lot (and I mean, a LOT) of enemies. You’d be surprised by just how much of the galaxy wants to introduce a few rounds to your skull. With that being said, there are also a lot of people that don’t want to do that, and you should show them the same level of courtesy. Here’s how to holster your weapon in Starfield.
How to Put Away Your Weapon in Starfield
To holster your weapon in Starfield, you’re obviously going to need your weapon out first. Pressing your aim key can do that easily enough. Once you have it out, there are naturally different ways to put it away, depending on your platform. On PC, you’ll want to hold the R key, and the weapon will be put away. Meanwhile, for Xbox users, you can do so by holding down the X button for a second or two. This can be done whether you’re in a friendly zone or a hostile zone.

Is There a Reason to Holster Your Weapon in Starfield?
For practicality’s sake, there isn’t a particular reason why you’d want to holster your weapon. You can even go as far as aiming your weapon at an NPC, and they’ll act like this is a typical Tuesday afternoon for them. The only practical use for holstering your weapon is to improve your visibility since there won’t be a giant Starfield equivalent of the Fat Man in the way of everything else.
As far as impractical uses go, it can be nice if you want to immerse yourself and don’t consider running around with a weapon out “immersive.” Given how few people partake in that, though, the chances of you being here for that are slim to none.
