How to Mod in The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update
For years, NexusMods has been one of the most prominent websites for game modding, and hosts tens of thousands of mods for a countless amount of different games. Back in the day, installing custom mods to your games could be a confusing process, which usually involved locating the correct mod folder, extracting files to it, editing some .ini files, etc. It was a mess. Thankfully, NexusMods has the Vortex Mod Manager to help make that process a breeze.
By creating an account on NexusMods, you can download the Vortex Mod Manager for all your modding needs. The Vortex Mod Manager is a client that recognizes your installed games and does all the heavy work for you once a mod is downloaded.
Once you’ve got Vortex installed, simply navigate back to the NexusMods Witcher 3 page and search for whatever mod you’d like to install. Once you find a mod, click on the Files page, and scroll down until you see Mod Manager Download. Clicking that will open Vortex, installing and enabling the mod for you.
Of course, with an update as drastic as the Next-Gen upgrade, it’s important to know which mods still remain compatible with the new version. Luckily, CD Projekt RED has compiled a list of approved mods you can still use in The Witcher 3. If you’re interested in a specific mod, it may be wise to check to see if it still works for the new version or not.
