When we hear the name Shigeru Miyamoto, we usually think of his work on iconic Nintendo games like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Star Fox. However, Miyamoto is also the mastermind behind the quirky puzzle game series known as Pikmin. The series debuted on the Game Cube in the early 2000s, and now with various remasters and upcoming sequels, some fans may be uncertain about where to find and play all of these games. Let’s clear things up and explore the world of Pikmin together.

Pikmin 1 + 2
Pikmin made its debut in 2001 for the Game Cube, with its sequel following suit in 2004 on the same system. These two games established the Pikmin formula and have since been re-released on Nintendo’s Wii and Wii U consoles. For optimal gameplay, Pikmin’s original titles are now available on the Nintendo Switch, where players can also access the recently published remasters in the Pikmin 1 + 2 Bundle. While you can get this digital bundle today for $49.99 (yikes!), the physical version will be available on September 22, 2023.

Pikmin 3
The release of the third installment in the Pikmin series was delayed and took a long hiatus before finally arriving in 2013, exclusively for the Wii U console, despite initially being intended for the Wii. In an effort to avoid being limited to Nintendo’s least successful platform, Pikmin 3 was re-released with slight improvements and enhancements as Pikmin 3 Deluxe for the Switch in late 2020, which is currently the ultimate version to play. You can purchase it for $59.99 in either a digital or physical format, or you can try it out for free with the demo version.
Pikmin 4
It’s worth noting that while all previous Pikmin games can now be played on Nintendo Switch, Pikmin 4 will be the first in the real-time strategy puzzle series to be developed specifically for the console. Fans can look forward to the release of Pikmin 4 on July 21, 2023.
For a slightly different Pikmin experience, there is also Pikmin Bloom, a mobile game released in 2021 for iOS and Android that rewards players for… spending time outside? Literally, go touch grass.
