XDefiant has had a few Closed Beta periods already, but now the game is finally in the Open Beta phase, and that means anyone who wants to try out the game can do so. However, there are confusing reports on the open phase of the game, and I will outline the full process here. Here’s how to play the XDefiant Open Beta.
How to Download the XDefiant Open Beta
Starting on June 21, players can download the XDefiant Open Beta by going to the digital console store or downloading the Ubisoft Connect client for PC. Console players have it much easier because the only step is to navigate the standard store for any game on PlayStation 5 or Xbox. Then search for the Open Beta client and download the game. This will be about 30 GB, and of course, the download is free.
For PC players, the process is a bit more convoluted, which is par for the course on the platform. As a Ubisoft-published game, you will have to download the game using the Ubisoft Connect launcher. If you don’t already have it, you can find the client online, and you will need a fresh account before starting any kind of download.

Having a Ubisoft account isn’t always required for games on Console. However, there are typically some rewards that are tied to the game for players that use their account as they play. Although it can be a headache, it’s usually worth it for some free rewards on XDefiant in the long run.
The Open Beta for XDefiant will run through June 23, so there isn’t a ton of time to play the game before the test comes to a close. While we might not have all weekend to play, it at least gives me some more time to figure out how I feel about the latest Call of Duty competition.
