Crafting a ship from scratch in Starfield is a meticulous process, with every piece of the ship needing to meet many requirements before it can be considered able to fly. Not only do many different parts need to be installed, but they also need to be implemented correctly and tweaked to fit the ship’s requirements. Sometimes, you’ll also want to change the orientation of parts to fit the aesthetic better. Here’s how to rotate ship pieces in Starfield.
How to Change the Direction of Ship Parts in Starfield
To change the rotation of ship pieces in Starfield’s ship builder, you’ll want to take a ship piece that is capable of being rotated, hold onto it either by holding left-click on PC or pressing A on controller, then press either Z on your keyboard or Y on controller to flip it, changing its orientation. This can also be done when hovering over a ship piece before you buy it.

However, not all ship pieces can be rotated one way or another. Most pieces, such as most weapons, engines, cockpits, and more, are incapable of being rotated or flipped. The best way to know if a ship piece can be flipped is by hovering over it when selecting which piece you want to buy. If the Flip option is present below the list of part options, then that part is capable of being flipped.
Is There a Way to Precisely Rotate Ship Parts in Starfield?
Sadly, there is no way to make ship parts a specific angle or degree in rotation. The reason for this likely has to do with the way ship length is calculated and how different rotations would throw that system off. However, I wouldn’t count out the possibility of mods adding this feature. Just don’t expect it to be perfectly polished.
