It takes a long time to discover the entire map in Diablo 4, and as Season 1 begins on July 20, you will certainly want to save the overall map progress on your main character. The good news is that saving progress is an easy process, but if you don’t complete the quick transfer, then it won’t appear on your fresh characters. Here’s how to save your map progress in Diablo 4 for Season 1.
Diablo 4 Season 1 – How to Save Map Progress
To save your map progress in Diablo 4, make sure to log into your main character after July 18. Logging into your character with the most progress on the map will transfer that progress to all subsequent characters in Season 1 or the Eternal Realm. But logging in after July 18 is the most critical step.
If you don’t log on with your main character after July 18, your account won’t register the most progress that you have. Instead, your Sanctuary map will be covered in Fog or will have the same progress as your most recent character following the Season 1 patch.
Once you log into Diablo 4 with your main character for the first time following the Season 1 patch, you won’t have to worry about saving map progress ever again. Every other season will automatically save the fog of war progress and all the areas you have already explored, so I recommend getting this out of the way as soon as possible and then moving on to the Seasonal Realm.

This process also applies to the Altars of Lilith. Whether it’s your main character or a secondary character, log into the one that has the most Altars of Lilith discovered. All of these stats will transfer over to subsequent characters and the Season 1 Realm, which is a major boost, so don’t skip this step in Diablo 4.
