How to Play the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC

To start the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC, select the “Valhalla” option under the New Game section of the main menu. Before trying to start, you need to download the new content from the PlayStation Store, which is almost 8GB for both the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 4. Selecting Valhalla without the download will bring you directly to the store page.

With the download and the December 12 update all set, it’s time to jump into Kratos’ next combat adventure. Because this DLC serves as a removed Epilogue, you don’t need to worry about having a previous save ready. As much as I wanted to see all of my old progress with my build, it’s not necessary in a roguelite.

Whenever you start the Valhalla DLC in God of War Ragnarok, Kratos will arrive with minimal armor and weapons to help him out. In your first run, you will essentially have nothing. Playing through different levels that progressively get tougher will reward you with gear to take on more enemies. But if you die, most of that is lost, and you start again.

How to Start God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC:

  • Download the 8GB DLC on the PlayStation Store.
  • Update your game on December 12.
  • Begin the DLC below “New Game” in the main menu.

This is a rogue-lite, though, so that means some permanent upgrade progress can be made after each run. Just remember that the progress is geared toward the Kratos in Valhalla and not the Kratos from your main save. This is all just a separate mode you can do for fun to test your combat skills.

If you haven’t been back since the initial release, check out all the new armors that were added with the New Game Plus update.
