While Alan Wake 2 is fun to play when purely playing as one character, it’s fun to have a little variety with both. Here’s how to switch characters in Alan Wake 2.
How to Switch Between Alan and Saga in Alan Wake 2
To switch your character in Alan Wake 2, you’ll want to get to a Janitor’s Bucket location on the map and use it to switch to another character. These are typically found at the beginning of each chapter within a side room, noted by the aforementioned Janitor’s Bucket, along with a puddle of black goo on the floor. Once you interact with it, you’ll go through a strange dimension as you transfer realities before finally becoming whichever character you were swapping to.
When you switch characters, you’ll be put at the beginning of whichever chapter you were on when you swapped. For example, I swapped last night before finishing up my play session and ended up at the beginning of one of Saga’s chapters, the events of which I won’t explain due to obvious spoilers. You’ll also be equipped with whatever you have when you finish up.
Why Should You Switch Characters?
There are two main reasons why you should swap between Alan and Saga in Alan Wake 2. The main one is that you must complete all chapters for both characters to finish the game. While you can run through the entirety of one person’s chapters before finishing the other, you’ll get more out of the experience by swapping frequently and seeing them unfold at roughly the same time. The other reason is just for variety since both characters have very different gameplay styles and weapons to use.
Alan Wake 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you’re looking for more information regarding the game, check out our guide on how to upgrade weapons in Alan Wake 2.
