Azumaril is the ideal choice for Tera Raid battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The combination of Belly Drum and Play Rough make it an absolute monster in five and six-star Tera Raids. However, Azumarill does not learn Belly Drum by conventional methods. So here is how to teach Belly Drum to Azumarill in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
How to Teach Azumarill Belly Drum in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
You can teach Azumarill Belly Drum in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet by using the Mirror Herb, or breeding with a Pokemon that’ll give it the egg move.
Azumarill does not learn Belly Drum from leveling up, and there is no Belly Drum TM in the game.
How to Teach Azumarill Belly Drum Using a Mirror Herb
If you head to Cascarrafa city and head to the Delibird Presents store on the second floor of the town. You can purchase an Item called “Mirror Herb” for 30,000 Poke Dollars. This item’s description is as follows.
“An item to be held by a Pokemon. This herb will allow the holder to mirror an opponent’s stat increases to boost its own stats—but only once.”
Now that doesn’t sound like it will accomplish anything, but the hidden ability of this item will allow Azumarill to pick up another Pokemon’s move.
You need to find a Hariyama that knows the move Belly Drum. Add it to your party and remove any other Pokemon besides the Azumarill and the Hariyama.
Go into your Azumarill’s Status Summary page and remove one of its moves, so it only has three. Now open up a picnic with the two Pokemon, and the Belly Drum move should move over to Azumarill.
You don’t need to do anything during the picnic, wait a few seconds, and the Belly Drum move will transfer over to Azumarill. Now you have an Azumarill with Belly Drum, which will be huge for upcoming Tera Raid battles.
How to Teach Azumarill Belly Drum Through Breeding
If you don’t want to use a Mirror Herb, or can’t afford it, you can get an Azumarill that knows Belly Drum by breeding an Azumarill with another compatible Pokemon that knows the move, and then hatching the resulting egg.
To breed an Azumarill that knows Belly Drum, you’ll first need need a male Eiscue that already knows Belly Drum. Unfortunately, this isn’t as simple as finding one in the wild. Like Azumarill, Eiscue also doesn’t learn Belly Drum by conventional means, so if you don’t already have an Eiscue that knows Belly Drum, you’ll have to breed one first.
To breed an Eiscue that knows the move Belly Drum, you’ll have to get yourself a male Zangoose. If you don’t already have one, you can find them roaming around in Area Three and Five of the South Province. Zangoose doesn’t learn Belly Drum by leveling up, but it can learn the move by remembering it, which you can do by pressing “Change Moves” on the Moves and Stats page in Zangoose’s Status Summary.
Now you’ll need a female Eiscue (any will do), which you can find in Area Three and the North Paldean Sea in the North Province if you’re playing Pokemon Violet. Eiscue is exclusive to Pokemon Violet, so if you’re playing Pokemon Scarlet, you’ll have to trade for it. Put both the female Eiscue and male Zangoose in your party and remove all other Pokemon, then open up a picnic.
After some time, you’ll start finding eggs in the basket next to the picnic table. Make sure you collect a few of them and then walk around with the eggs in your party. After a certain number of steps, the eggs will start hatching. If not at first, eventually one of those eggs will hatch a male Eiscue that knows the move Belly Drum.
Once you get a male Eiscue with Belly Drum, you’ll want to find a female Marill or Azumarill (any will do). Then you’ll breed the male Eiscue with the female Marill or Azumarill in the same way you did with Zangoose and Eiscue.
Make sure the two are alone in your party and then picnic with them until you start collecting eggs from the picnic basket. Walk around with the eggs until they hatch, and the result should be a Marill that knows the move Belly Drum. From there, it’s only a matter of evolving Marill into Azumarill, which will happen once Marill reaches level 18.
Teaching Azumarill Belly Drum by using a Mirror Herb is by far simpler and quicker. But a bred Azumarill will likely have much better stats over time if you’re choosing a hatchling with the right attack-boosting nature (Adamant) and IVs. This technique has proved useful for both the Charizard and Cinderace 7-Star Tera Raid battles, and your Azumarill will likely continue to be a valuable asset for future events. Therefore, it is certainly worth it to put in the effort!
