Season 4 of Diablo 4 has changed how players can upgrade their gear with better stats without having to switch it out with a new piece entirely. The new process is called Tempering, and here is how to temper weapons and gear in Diablo 4.
How to Temper Gear in Diablo 4
Tempering weapons and gear in Diablo 4 can be done at the Blacksmith in any of the towns that have one. The process is in its own tab at the Blacksmith, which has been simplified with the Season 4 update.
Players can choose any piece of gear they would like to add affixes to, then pick which Temper Manual they would like applied under one of the appropriate six categories. Each manual has its own set of affixes, which will be randomly applied to the weapon or gear.
Tempering will cost a certain amount of material, and then you can confirm it. Affixed stats will be represented with an anvil icon next to it on the gear’s description. Affixed stats can be rerolled, but must be from the same category.
How to Get Temper Manuals in Diablo 4
Temper Manuals can be found randomly by defeating monsters. They will appear as an item taking up space in your loot inventory, and players just simply have to highlight and select Learn to bind it to your character.
All Temper Manuals come in different rarities with the Legendary Temper Manuals appearing more commonly in higher World Tiers. Thankfully, the Blacksmith will only choose the highest rarity of manuals that you own, so the list is much shorter. Likewise, the game will let you know that you already own a higher version of a manual if you learn a lower rarity one after.
The best method to acquire many Temper Manuals is to farm Baneful Hearts and grind in the new version of Helltides introduced in Season 4.
