Honkai: Star Rail’s combat system differs greatly from Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd. Unlike these two, where you fight in the overworld in real-time, HSR has a traditional turn-based system with skills reminiscent of both games. However, with turn-based combat comes a fun little feature that can make or break an experience: auto-battling! If you would like to learn more, continue reading to discover how to turn on auto-battling in Honkai: Star Rail.
How to Turn on Auto Battle in Honkai: Star Rail
To briefly summarize auto-battling, it’s a feature in turn-based combat systems that lets your characters automatically attack and activate abilities. While their moves aren’t always optimal for specific situations, it’s a nice way to sit back and relax if you’re struggling with a fight or just want to focus on something else and let the game play itself for a bit. You can even spend some time looking into the lore of March 7th’s name if you want.
During Honkai: Star Rail’s first Simulated Universe storyline quest, you’ll learn how to initiate auto-battling through a brief tutorial detailing the following:
- In the top corner of your combat screen, you’ll see three buttons: fast forward, auto-battle and pause.
- Click the button with two arrows pointing toward each other to start auto-battling.
- To deactivate it and manually select skills again, press this button again.

By activating auto-battle, your character will automatically use their basic attacks, skills and ultimates without you having to do anything. However, if you don’t like this system, you can always keep it off and do everything manually. In my experiences with using this, it’s a decent system that made some helpful decisions I otherwise wouldn’t have considered.
