In 2023, DICE has some big plans for Battlefield 2042 like the standard class system that we all know and love, but we can expect some standard content drops as well. To kick off the new year of weapons, the MTAR-21 joined the PP-2000 and the M39 EMR as the latest set of vault weapons.

The PP-2000 is from Bad Company 2 while the MTAR-21 and the EMR are Battlefield 3 classics. Each one of these weapons will need to be unlocked, regardless of your level or the weapons you already have unlocked in the collection. Our guide will cover how you can obtain the MTAR specifically in Battlefield 2042 Season 3.

Battlefield 2042 – How to Unlock the MTAR-21

If you were a fan of Battlefield 3, then you know that the MTAR-21 is part of the assault rifle class in Battlefield 2042. That means you’ll be using weapons in the same class to unlock the latest AR. Two challenges are required, with one calling for specific ARs, which can be a hurdle. Below you can see both challenges.

MTAR-21 Vault Challenges:

  • Earn 100 Kills and Assists with the A-91
  • Earn 50 Kills with Assault Rifles at a distance of 25m or more

Both of these challenges need to be completed and it’s the first one that can take much more time depending on how large your collection is. To use the A-91 at all, you need to unlock it just like you would the MTAR-21 because it’s also a Battlefield 3 vault weapon. That requires another set of challenges, including getting kills with one of the base game assault rifles, the AC-42.

Unlocking the AC-42 requires players to hit level 40 in Battlefield 2042. So if you’re new to the game, you’ll have a while to go before attempting to unlock the A-91 or the MTAR-21. But if you’ve been grinding the game already, then the MTAR-21 is only 150 kills and assists away from unlocking in your collection.
