If you’re looking to get the most out of your weapons and armor in Diablo 4, then using the gems you find out in the wild is your best bet. The bonuses aren’t anything to write home about at first but don’t underestimate how much they as a whole can help you reach your maximum power. If you’ve changed your mind about a particular gem you socketed, you may want to know how to remove it. Here’s how to unsocket gems in Diablo 4.
How to Remove Gems from Weapons and Armor in Diablo 4
There are two ways you can unsocket gems in Diablo 4, technically speaking. The first is rather unorthodox, involving you dismantling or selling the piece of gear outright. This will return the gem to your inventory, as well as remove the piece of gear entirely. That’s likely not something you want to do though, and thankfully the developers did take that into account.
To unsocket gems without losing the piece of gear, you’ll first want to reach Level 20 on your character. From there, a Priority Quest will unlock in which you must speak to Kratia in Kyovashad. For reference, she’s marked on the map with a diamond symbol, so she shouldn’t be too hard to locate. Once you speak to her, you’ll want to go to her shop tabs and select the Unsocket tab. Click on the icon of pliers, then click on the piece of gear you want to unsocket a gem from. It’s that simple! Kratia also won’t charge you for unsocketing gems, so feel free to mix and match to your heart’s content.

You won’t have much use for unsocketing gems early on since you won’t be keeping your gear for long, but late game it can be a huge help as you work to min-max your build.
