Mods are returning to the city-building game Cities: Skylines 2, but installing them will work a little differently than the previous game. However, the process will be familiar for those who have used mods for other Paradox Interactive games. Here’s how to use Paradox Mods in Cities: Skylines 2.
How to Install Paradox Mods in Cities: Skylines 2
Unlike the first game on PC, Cities: Skylines 2 will not support the Steam Workshop or Nexus Mods website. Players will have to get their mods from the Paradox Mods website, which also hosts mods for other Paradox Interactive games.
Also, mod support is not available in the game at launch for PC. The publisher has said that modding support will come sometime after launch alongside mod tools. Once they’re available, you’ll be able to install mods with these steps:
- Go to the official Paradox Mods website.
- Create/log into your Paradox account.
- Choose Cities: Skylines 2 from the list of games.
- Select a mod.
- Hit the green ADD button to add the mod.
The subscribed mods will appear in your game on the next launch, as long as you are logged into your Paradox account. Players will have to return to the website to remove any mods currently subscribed to.
The reason for the change is that allows feature parity for mods among the Steam, Microsoft Store, and console versions of the game. One mod can be added across all platforms from one place instead of different methods for each.
The same process will work for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game, though players will have to link either their PlayStation Network or Xbox accounts to their Paradox account. The console versions are expected to launch sometime in Q2 2024 after the publisher announced a delay.
