How to Upgrade The Workbench In Valheim

Ok so first off,  you’ll want to build a workbench, which will take wood and stone. Once you’ve built one, you’ll have access to tools like the stone axe and some other tools. These are all level one tools, and you’ll gain more recipes as you pick up resources like leather for the first time.

After this, if you want to build more complex recipes and tools you’ll need to upgrade your workbench.

  • The first upgrade for the workbench requires a chopping block, which costs ten wood and ten Flint. Flint can be found around the world, it looks like stone and will be clustered together.
  • The second upgrade comes from crafting a tanning rack. The tanning rack costs ten wood, 15 flint, and 20 leather. Leather can be found from killing boars. Roam around the starting area to find plenty of boar to kill.
  • The third upgrade for the workbench requires an Adze. You’ll need ten fine wood and three copper. Copper is obtained by smelting together Tin and Copper, which can only be gathered after defeating the first boss of the game.
  • The final upgrade for the workbench requires the Tool Shelf. To craft the tool shelf you’ll need 4 iron, one fine wood, and four obsidian.

All of these items will need to be placed near the workbench to upgrade it. After that, you’ll be able to craft and upgrade all sorts of different recipes.
