Alan Wake 2’s release is approaching very fast, set to release next Friday, October 27. The game will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside PC. While the game has been openly announced for the Epic Games Store, there’s been no information about its release on Steam. Here’s whether Alan Wake 2 is on Steam.
Will Alan Wake 2 Be Available on Steam?
To get the elephant out of the room immediately, no, Alan Wake 2 will not be available on Steam when it launches next week. It is exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC, so you’ll need to fork over some cash there if you want to play it right away. This is all due to an agreement between Epic Games and Remedy Entertainment, which started with the release of Control back in 2019.
If you want to get caught up instead, the first Alan Wake is available for purchase on Steam. It isn’t the shiny remastered version, but it still is completely playable. You can also play just about any other game on Remedy Entertainment’s catalog through Steam. This includes the original two Max Payne Games, Quantum Break, and Control, among select other titles.
Will Alan Wake 2 Ever Come to Steam?
As for if you’ll ever be able to play Alan Wake 2 on Steam, that’s a different story. Since Remedy has that exclusivity deal with Epic Games, that deal is naturally only timed exclusivity. It will come to Steam at some point, and we can thankfully use Control as a reference. Control was released on the Epic Games Store in August 2019, while its Steam version saw a release in August 2020. Applying this to Alan Wake 2, we should see its release on Steam in late October 2024. If you’re willing to wait that long, you’ll get what you’re asking for.
