Whenever a new game in a series releases, one question immediately surfaces: is this a sequel, a spin-off, or a remaster of a previous entry? Continue reading to discover whether ARK: Survival Ascended is a sequel to ARK: Survival Evolved.
Is ARK: Survival Ascended a Sequel to ARK: Survival Evolved?
No, ARK: Survival Ascended is not a direct sequel to Survival Evolved. Instead, it is a remaster and reimagination of the first game in Unreal Engine 5 and will feature everything from Survival Evolved. The actual sequel is ARK 2, which has yet to be released.
ARK: Survival Ascended is a modernized version of Survival Evolved with improved graphics, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, and cross-platform modding. ARK 2, on the other hand, is designed to be Survival Evolved’s true sequel with a developed storyline, character progression, and UE5 tech.
ARK: Survival Ascended, released in early access on PC on October 25, 2023, follows the same direction as Survival Evolved, with the latter’s DLCs and maps being remade for Ascended. While it will have unique content unavailable in Evolved, many of its features come directly from the first game and are remastered with a new engine.
When is ARK 2 Releasing?
Currently, the only information available about ARK 2’s release date is sometime at the end of 2024. However, similar to ARK: Survival Ascended’s PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S launches, this date is subject to change with any delays or development changes in the future. While the goal is the end of 2024, there are no further details on an exact month.
ARK: Survival Ascended is available on PC starting October 25, 2023, and will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in November 2023.
