Remember Dino Crisis? Well, Capcom fans can’t forget. Released exactly between the second and third Jurassic Park movies back in the 90s when dinosaurs were all the rage, the concept was very simple – what if we replaced zombies with dinosaurs in a Resident Evil-like survival horror? The first two games had some success, but after the very strange “dinosaurs in space” Dino Crisis 3 for the original Xbox released in 2003, the series has gone completely extinct.
Some decades later after Capcom had a few very well-received remakes of the Resident Evil games from the same era some remaining Dino Crisis fans started wondering if it was finally time to bring this franchise back to life. First Exoprimal trailers from last summer gave some hope with a strong tease that the new Capcom dino game might be somehow related to the Dino Crisis series, so is it? Let’s find out.
Do Exoprimal and Dino Crisis Share the Same Universe?
Although in one of the first trailers we saw a red-haired woman who is very reminiscent of Regina from the first two Dino Crisis games, as well as the fact that Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the producer of the original games, was “deeply involved” in the development of Exoprimal – in a recent interview with IGN, with one statement, Capcom killed the last hope that its new game is connected to Dino Crisis in any way.

Takuro Hiraoka, the Capcom director, confirmed that Exoprimal is not connected to the Dino Crisis in any way. He acknowledged that the first trailer seemed to hint at some sort of connection but, again, he stated that it just wasn’t the case.
Needless to say, Dino Crisis fans were disappointed, but there is still a chance that if Exoprimal goes well, maybe someone will get the idea to greenlight another dinosaur game. That, or if they run out of Resident Evil games to remake. Also, with the Street Fighter 6 characters coming to Exoprimal, maybe Capcom can add some Dino Crisis-themed skins in the game down the road to further tease this long-starved fan base.
Exoprimal is a third-person co-op multiplayer shooter game that is coming out this Friday for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and PC.
